VESSEL DESCRIPTION

INTRODUCTION:

With her classic lines and updated systems, Westward is set up to be easily sailed shorthanded and sleeps 6 below while her large cockpit fits more for enjoyable day sails.  Beautiful to look at and to sail.

CONSTRUCTION:

Solid hand laid fiberglass hull and deck are fiberglassed and bolted together once the deck, that includes the molded house and cockpit, is set into a molded flange in the hull, then fiberglassed and bolted in place.  This delivers a boat of extraordinary rigidity.

Hull:

• Dark Green Awlgrip hull (85% Dark Green and 15% Black) – 2002
• Single white boot stripe
• Gold leaf cove stripe

• Black bottom
• External lead ballast keel is fared at leading edge and mounted with Everdur bolts.
• Spade rudder.

Deck:

• White Awlgrip decks with molded nonskid (2000)
• Stainless steel custom stem fitting with bow roller and integrated line chocks.
• Teak covering board on deck between bow roller and windlass
• Stainless steel bow and stern pulpits.
• Stainless steel stanchions with double lifelines, port and starboard gates.  Lifelines new 2011
• Herreshoff style aluminum bow and stern cleats
• Varnished teak toe rails, handrails, hatch frames, aft lazarette hatch covers, cockpit coaming, and varnished teak exterior trim.
• Double opening hatch with teak trim and translucent cover.
• (6) Opening ports
• (4) Larger fixed ports
• Large opening custom Hinckley hatch with translucent cover over forward berth with reversible hinges so can be opened forward or aft
• Stainless steel genoa tracks.
• Aft lazarette stowage compartment has varnished teak hatch cover

COCKPIT:

The large, comfortable cockpit has long seats with a bridge deck forward and tall coamings providing good back support.  The steering pedestal is moved forward in the cockpit to allow room behind helmsperson for mainsheet trimmer.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

The interior has a simple, open layout with the galley aft on both sides of the companionway with the counter over the icebox serving as the nav station.  Forward of the galley is the main cabin with symmetrical settees and pilot berths and a custom folding table mounted to the forward bulkhead.  Forward of the main cabin is the head to port and a hanging locker opposite to starboard with the master cabin with v-berth forward.

• Satin finished mahogany bulkheads and trim with painted white overhead (overhead painted 2020 and interior revarnished 2004-2005)

• Opening portlights and overhead hatch provide abundant natural light and ventilation

Forward Cabin:

• Large b-berth fill filler to create double berth

• Drawers to port aft of berth with shelf area above

• Tile countertops and cabin sole for easy cleaning
• Stainless steel sink with hot/cold pressure water faucet with pull out head for shower
• Storage under counter and in lockers outboard
• Mahogany framed mirror on forward bulkhead next to bulkhead mounted light

Main Cabin

• Settees and pilot berths have lee cloths
• Custom drop down folding dining table mounted to forward bulkhead (2003)
• Ocean Frigast bulkhead reading lights for settees and pilot berths
• Settees pull out to provide comfortable single berths

Galley:

• Shipmate stainless steel three burner propane stove with oven and remote propane solenoid
• Stainless steel sink with hot cold pressure faucet
• Large icebox to starboard
• Formica countertops with mahogany trim (2000)
• Varnished mahogany paper towel holder and spice shelves
• Storage in lockers with sliding doors outboard of countertops and along aft bulkhead with custom dish storage

• Additional storage in dry locker under counter aft of stove
• Removable companionway steps and large door under sink provide access to engine compartment
