The 40z may very well be the best performance-oriented cruising boat ever designed.

Few boats so precisely meet their intended goals.  The 40z marries performance with fuel efficiency, extended couple cruising with trend setting day boat sociability, safety and ease of movement with a single level deck and two steps to the cabin.  Volvo IPS joystick technology eliminates stress by making maneuvering around docks is easy and safe.  Easy transport to your favorite destinations, a 40z can be trucked overland without penalty. Width doesn’t exceed 12 feet and height on a trailer is less than 13.5 feet.

Moxie, #32, is a beautiful example of the 40z.  Her owner has spared no expense in her upkeep and maintenance.  She is loaded with options and upgrades and ready to take you on your next adventure.

There are two 19 X 19 hatches overhead, one of which is directly over the berth for watching stars at night or quick deck access which is a safe and dry way to inspect the anchoring gear without having to go on deck. These hatches plus in hull ports provide exceptional light and ventilation and are equipped with shades and screens. Just aft is the convenient and fully equipped galley to port and a convertible dinette to starboard.  It’s a wonderful area which is well suited to dining, playing games, working or just keeping the cook company.

The pilot house is an expansive area with comfortable seating for eight with the wide Stidd chairs that rotate to join the conversation and two comfortable settees with a teak table for alfresco dining and cocktails.

Hull and Deck

The Doug Zurn designed 40Z hull features a modified deep – V planning hull with 19-degree deadrise aft running forward 13 feet which then transitions to 50 degrees forward. This combined with dual lifting strakes, chine flats and generous bow flare make for the driest ride, exceptional stability and tracking upwind or down, and a low vertical center of gravity so she’ll carve into turns rather than lean outwards as low-tech heavier boats frequently do.

The legendary MJM fuel efficiency (as little as 50% of comparable 40 footers) is achieved through her high-tech build that eliminates fuel wasting excess weight. Yet this high tech, high strength, high quality build process is certified ISO CE Mark Class A Ocean.

The ergonomics are simply unmatched starting with the innovative side boarding cockpit doors. The single level cockpit and pilot house sole and abundant handholds make moving about easy.

The mjm 40z is built with advanced composites using vacuum bagged lightweight wet pre-preg, post-cure, Epoxy/Kevlar/Eglass/Corecell creating an exceedingly strong hull with a low center of gravity which provides greater stability and seaworthiness as well as an impressive comfortable ride.  She is one of only two 40’ yachts ISO Certified CE Mark Category A Ocean.

Brokers Notes

2017 Incident:

In late 2017, while on the hard for winter storage at York River Yacht Haven Marina, VA, her home port, she sustained some heat damage from a nearby fire.  The fire was from a small outbuilding in the yard.  The primary affected area on the starboard side of the hull was about 3’x4’ and as you might guess affected some of the canvas enclosure.

The owner spared no expense in having the boat correctly repaired.  That plan included sending the boat to BBW for hull repair, all new paint job, new canvas and any other related items that BBW recommended. BBW provided an additional 3 years of structural warranty.

A very detailed description of the work completed at BBW is available.  The owner also has a complete work and maintenace history for Moxie since new.  Trust me, this is the kind of owner that you want to buy a boat from.

While at BBW, he upgraded the windshield to the power windows. He also had the forward side windows in helmdeck replaced.  All this work was done in 2019 and details can be provided.
