Vessel Description

INTRODUCTION:

The Leigh 30 grew out of the success of her little sister, the Frances 26.  Her canoe stern and cutaway full keel and refined hull shape results in a hull that is easily pushed and comfortable in a seaway with a very balanced sail plan.  Easily sailed short handed, SWALLOW is well suited for both blue water cruising and afternoon sails.  She has been extensively updated and very well maintained by her current owner and is well worth a trip for anyone looking for a high quality small sailing yacht.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Swallow is finished below deck with white bulkheads, varnished mahogany trim, and oiled cedar ceiling.  Cushions are 4” foam with dark green Sunbrella.

V-berth forward has a drop-in filler to form a double berth.  Full-length shelves above and drop-face lockers below.  Deck prisms above each berth give natural light.  A forward-facing port with screen brings in the breeze at when anchor, along with an overhead hatch.

Next aft is head with solid oval doors closing it off from both V-berth and main cabin.  Jabsco manual head to starboard, (new pump 2023).  A stainless sink with manual freshwater pump slides in for use on bronze tracks.  Large hanging locker to port.  2 opening ports with screens.  This is an arrangement common in the later Morris Leigh models, providing very good space and privacy.

The main cabin has settee berths port and starboard with storage lockers and shelves above.  Mahogany Saloon table with leaves port and starboard and built-in wine storage.  Aft to starboard is a chart table which can be removed for use of the quarter berth.  Electronics and additional storage above and outboard.

Galley to port, with a gimbaled Origo 6000 non-pressurized alcohol stove with oven.  This is an efficient and easy-to-use system, preferred by many long-distance cruisers for safety and simplicity.  Large icebox, storage, and extra counter space from a folding extension.  Stainless sink is supplied by Whale freshwater foot pump.

Ventilation from 9 opening bronze ports (most with screens), 2 overhead hatches, and one dorade vent.  There is a full-length drop-in screen for the companionway.  Additional light from three deck prisms.
